The Role
Build and manage a caseload of public law and inquest matters, including claimant Judicial Reviews and Human Rights Act challenges.
Handle complex and sensitive cases involving vulnerable clients and matters of significant public interest.
Prepare and manage Legal Aid funding applications, alongside privately funded litigation where appropriate.
Provide advocacy and work closely with leading counsel and external experts.
Develop and grow the firm's public law and inquests offering through business development and networking.
Build and mentor a team as the department develops.
Work collaboratively with existing specialist teams, including Childcare, Court of Protection, Mental Health and Crime.
Contribute to the strategic development of the department and wider firm.
Maintain high standards of client care, compliance and professional conduct.
About You
Qualification as a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with a current Practising Certificate.
Ideally 3+ years' PQE within public law, administrative law and/or inquests, although applications will be considered from candidates with varying levels of seniority where there is strong technical expertise.
Experience handling Judicial Reviews, Human Rights litigation and/or inquests.
Legal Aid Supervisor status and strong knowledge of Legal Aid Agency procedures and compliance.
Strong advocacy and case management skills.
A sound understanding of public law, community care and human rights legislation.
The ability to deal sensitively and professionally with vulnerable clients and complex, high-stakes matters.
An interest in developing a practice area and building a team around them.
